EDRG 3321 Chapter 5 Poetry
Today in class we went over chapter five which talked about poems and how we as teachers should never put down our future students because we never know if they could become something big in the future. I do agree that their are some teachers who still say that when writing a poem, it has to rhyme. And to me I remember that when I was like in seventh or eight grade My teacher assign us a poem assignment. And I honestly have never been a big poem fan, so when I was doing the assignment it was just so hard and difficult for me because I always tried to rhyme my words, which I would spend like more then an hour just thinking of what I was going to make a poem on. But now that I'm older I realize that a poem is just something that come from a feeling inside you or something that is in your heart. Yet this chapter is very helpful and it was a good eye opener on what is a poem and how to engage your students to be a poem readers and writers. And also a poem can be a way of letteing the student express their feelings with any word they like, and sometimes the poem does not have to rhyme, because at time the poems that don't rhyme are the ones that sometimes one remembers or understands the most.

I agree that times have changed in terms of how writing poetry has change for the better. well at least if the teacher is not intimidated by poetry. There are some creative poems out there one of them is a book called Where the Sidewalk Ends. the author, Sheldon Sliverstein, writes outside the box and shows children to be creative.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to you in your blog. I never was fond of poetry books, but now I understand that it can be very useful in a classrooom. It is important to apply these types of lessons in a fun and unique way. Great Job on your blog!!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to some of the things you said in your blog. I actually enjoy poetry and try to write some poems from time to time. When I write now though I dont necessarily try to make it rhyme, but when I was younger that was all poem writing was focused on. One of the thing I remember was when I would have to write a haiku. I had to do them from elementary to college and it is always one of the worst type of poety for me to do.
